Local resident stresses more should be done to save Florida’s panthers

To the editor:

Seven panthers killed on Florida roads and no Florida Highway Patrol efforts in sight.

Why do they not reduce the speed limit to 25 m.p.h. in panther habitat areas? Put more patrol personnel, state, county and local, to patrol the panther corridors?

Environmental organizations and other service clubs like SCI,SW Conservancy, Audubon, Sierra Clubs, etc. should give money to the police groups to do extra patrolling. Why aren't there Florida Fish & Game officers patrolling to save our panthers?

It is a true travesty to let these panthers get killed on our highways month after month.

Florida Fish and Game and its commissioners should be congratulated on their pure apathy of this matter.

By the way, no toll roads in rural Florida. This equals even more panther deaths. What a waste of these beautiful Florida State official mammals.

Get with it patrolmen and the people who set the speed limits. Fewer panther deaths on our roads, even none.
