January 15, 2020
Pine Island Eagle

An early morning fire destroyed a two-family home and damaged an RV in the Suncoast community in North Fort Myers Wednesday.

There were no fatalities or injuries, but seven people were displaced from their homes.

The North Fort Myers Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at a manufactured home on Suncoast Drive at 3:41 a.m.

The home was a double-wide single-family unit that had converted into two residences, officials said.

The fire was contained to one bedroom. Due to smoke damage, however, the structure was a complete loss.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be electrical, possibly caused by a ceiling fan, according to Christi Kulwicki, fire inspector and department spokesperson.

A recreational vehicle nearby also sustained damage, which displaced two of the seven people.

Volunteers of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team were on scene to help coordinate emergency aid to the three affected families.
