A south county teen was arrested on a school bus after officials investigating a report that a student might be aboard with a weapon found a loaded gun in his possession.

Student Jose Amieva, 17, was charged with the possession of a weapon on school property, unlawful possession of a firearm under the age of 18, and carrying a concealed weapon. The Lee County Sheriff's Office says he was "in possession of a loaded Glock 23, 40-caliber handgun, which was later confirmed to be stolen out of Lee County."

The arrest came after a tip was received the Lee County School District Bus Barn Thursday in reference to a juvenile who was in possession of a gun on a school bus.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office was immediately notified and deputies were dispatched to the location of the then-stationary school bus, officials said.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bus pulled over on I-75 by Bonita Beach Road. Deputies quickly made contact with the only occupants on the bus, two students and the bus driver.

They then found Amieva with the firearm, a release issued by the Sheriff's Office late Thursday states.

"Deputies removed the handgun and placed Amieva in handcuffs," officials said.

"Bringing a weapon of any kind on to school property will not be tolerated and you will be arrested," Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in the prepared statement. "The minute we were notified of this situation, deputies and school officials immediately responded and removed the threat. I can assure you that our children, schools, and school buses will be safe in Lee County."
