June 12, 2019

Herbert Wagner of Matlacha celebrated his 100th birthday with friends and neighbors on June 3. Herb has been a resident of Matlacha since 1970 and before that vacationed at Miller's cottages in Bokeelia.

A retired radio operator, Herb was commissioned on Merchant Marine ships during World War II. He then worked on many ships over the years, plus air traffic control and radio dispatch for the Cincinnati Police Department.

Cigdem Thanhoffer of Little Big Beak Farms gifted a wonderful centennial cake, and Beth Larson, flutist from the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra came to play for him. Herb's wife Helen played flute for the symphony in the '70s and the '80s.
