Beacon of HOPE Wellness Committee: Free mammograms coming to the island

May 29, 2019
By Janet Darnell , Pine Island Eagle

Breast cancer is a leading cause of death among women in the United States and will affect one in eight during their lifetime. A woman is diagnosed every 2 minutes and one dies every 15 minutes of breast cancer in the U.S. It has been proven that early detection with regular mammograms results in earlier diagnosis which leads to a 98 percent chance of survival. Early detection saves lives.

Partners for Breast Cancer Care Inc. is a community-based organization in Lee County that provides no-cost breast screening, diagnostic testing, surgery and treatment to women and men who have no insurance access to very little income. Partners is a one-of-a-kind organization that is dedicated to serving our community's women and men who desperately need our help. Since 2006, we have helped 9,964 residents and provided 15,323 breast care procedures at a cost of $2 million. Clients are helped with no cost to them.

The Breast Caravan will be at the Beacon of HOPE on Monday, June 10. Come and get your mammogram. It is of no cost to you and it could save your life. If follow-up care is recommended, it will be funded by the Beacon of HOPE's "From Our Hearts" through Partners for Breast Cancer Care. Call 239-454-8583 to qualify and schedule your appointment.

The Beacon of HOPE is located at 5090 Doug Taylor Circle, St James City. Phone-239-283-5123
