Bryan and Diana Stockbridge, owners of Gulf Coast Kayak, and Lisa Dense, owner of Olde Fish House Marina, presented checks to Candlelighters of Southwest Florida last Tuesday morning in the total amount of $7,035.

"I am thrilled we managed to exceed our goal of $7,000 this year," said Klair Snellbaker of Candlelighters of Southwest Florida. "This year we had new obstacles to overcome because of the fish ban. The tournament organizers overcame those obstacles with the catch, photo and release method to score fish."

Gulf Coast Kayak raised $6,000 from the Calusa Blueway Fishing Tournament in December and Dense contributed the proceeds from bingo nights in the month of November at Olde Florida Fish House in the amount of $1,035.

Snellbaker founded the organization in 1984 after she lost her 4-year-old daughter Erin to cancer. The website www.candlelightersswfl.org has a page entitled "On Erin's wings."

Candlelighters serves approximately 550 families in a five-county area of Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Glades.

"I want to thank Gulf Coast Kayak for hosting the Calusa Blueway Kayak Fishing Tournament and naming Candlelighters children's cancer as the beneficiary," Snellbaker said. "And a special thanks to Lisa and her team at the Olde Fish House for November bingo nights."

Candlelighters of Southwest Florida is a 501c3 nonprofit that provides support, education and assistance to families of children with cancer or blood disorders and the professionals who care for them.

All children with cancer or blood disorders and their families are eligible to receive benefits of membership. For more information, visit them at www.candlelightersswfl.org
