Notice of water rate increase

January 2, 2019
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

After review of the 2019 budget, the Greater Pine Island Water Association Board of Directors voted to support a 2 percent rate increase for both the next neighborhood improvement project, water distribution pipeline improvements and other capital improvements identified in the recommended budget. The combination of capital reinvestment and loss in revenue from Cape Coral North 2 are the drivers leading to the increase.

There was no increase in rates for 2017. There was a 2 percent increase in 2018 on water sales, ready to serve charge and base fee. The real dollar cost of the 2 percent water rate increase to our membership is dependent on how much water is used. Based on a household or customer that uses 4,000 gallons/month the increase is $0.71/month.

The GPIWA Annual Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. in the GPIWA Boardroom, 5281 Pine Island Road. Members are encouraged to attend. The budget will be summarized along with projects planned for 2019.

Please visit "What's New" tab to see the adopted budget summary and fee structure example.
