In a tighter race than anyone expected, John Cammick defeated Jamie Brush for Matlacha Pine Island Fire District seat 4 by 15 percentage points in Tuesday's General Election.

There were 4,391 votes cast in the M/PIFCD Commissioner election. The final tally was 2,532 votes (58 percent) for Cammick and 1,859 votes (42 percent) for Jamie Brush.

"I'd like to congratulate my opponent Jamie Brush on a good campaign," Cammick said. "We all want what's best for Pine Island and need people, especially young people, to be engaged and working towards our common goals. I'm sure we'll be seeing Ms. Brush in years to come. I'd also like to thank those who supported me for reelection and promise to give everything I have for Pine Island and Matlacha."

"No matter who I wanted to win in this election, I will continue to pray that our presiding leaders make thoughtful decisions," Brush said. "Maybe even more so now with the negativity surrounding our area and state. Thanks to those who cast their vote!"

The Cammick / Brush Fire Commissioner Seat 4 was the only contested race on the board.
