M/PIFCD offers CPR and AED training at PIE

October 31, 2018
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Several Pine Island Fire Department members went to Pine Island Elementary School to conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training for 12 staff members

The group of 12 was composed of teachers and staff, including guest teachers, para professionals, food service workers and office staff on a volunteer basis.

Generally a school has its clinic assistant and clinic back up certified in these areas but PIE has that, and more!

PIE has folks that are trained, certified by the AHA, willing and able to respond to a simple boo-boo to trying to revive someone who is not breathing.

"Our department was asked to teach CPR/first aid to Pine Island Elementary school teachers. PIE school staff goes above and beyond in protecting our children - one way is through learning how to provide CPR/first aid," Fire Chief Ben Mickuleit said.

"CPR is a vital component in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the event of cardiac arrest," he continued. "We strongly believe that the more people know CPR, the safer our community becomes. If anyone is interested in learning CPR, please contact us at 239-283-0030."

The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District's main station 1 is at 5700 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia. Call (239) 283-0030 for additional information about the department.
