Herd of Moose?

June 27, 2018
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

The Pine Island Moose began in Matlacha in 1984 at what is now the Blue Dog. In 1986 they bought the property where the Lodge now sits. The building they bought was the beginning of the original Shell Factory. Once the building was remodeled, the Lodge opened in 1987. After Hurricane Charley destroyed the Lodge in 2004, they had to build a new Lodge and opened in 2006.

Our Lodge donates to many national and local projects, including Safe Surfing, Scouts, Pine Island Elementary School plus Moose International. Projects and many other local projects. Our Moose has over the last 20 years given scholarships to Pine Island high school seniors. We have given over $90,000 in scholarships to these students. The bicycle poker run is held the last Saturday in January, so if you're interested in helping with this come have some fun and maybe you might even win.

We have added a lanai for our smokers because the Lodge has decided to go non-smoking, which is good for families with children. We still serve excellent lunches during the week, and the evening meals at reasonable prices are all done by volunteers. We also have different games for your enjoyment. There's pool, shuffleboard, Foosball and bowling, just to name a few.

You can even come with family and friends and enjoy some cool refreshments and conversations.

Please stop in and check out your Lodge and enjoy the camaraderie.
