Pine Island Women of the Moose award scholarships to students

Last Friday night, the Women of the Moose awarded six scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to local students. The presentations included Pine Island senior scholarships and continuing education scholarships.

The scholarships were awarded to:

- John Bartolatta Florida Southwestern State College. Bartolatta maintains a GPA of 3.58, volunteers at the Salvation Army and is president of Trash Basher's.

- Mackenly Davis Flagler College. Davis is the secretary of the Archeology Club.

- Julia Robertson University of Florida. Robertson wants to be a large animal veterinarian. She is a member of Dakota County 4-H, Arcadia All Florida Saddle Club, National Art Honor Society and the National Honor Society.

- Kyle Skau - Greensboro College. Skau is majoring in history

- Dakotah Goetz University of Southern Florida. Goetz is studying information systems at the University of South Florida in Tampa. His current course of study includes a statistics class. He will pursue an internship in the computer sciences field this summer to further develop his skills in the field.

- Brittany Newman Florida Southwestern Florida. Newman maintains a 3.78 GPA and has received the Gold Scout Award (equal to Eagle Scout Award). She is also on the Presidents List at FGCU and has an International Baccalaureate Degree.

"We are all very proud of each and every one of these young people," said Glenda Busscher of the Women of the Mosse. "They've worked very hard and are a wonderful credit to our island."

Each year the WOTM recognizes students for their academic achievements and goals, community service and more.
