Don’t take my guns!

To the editor:

After Barack Obama's election in 2008, a good friend called me from Scranton, Pa. He was very agitated because he had read on the Internet that Obama was going to use closed military bases to detain gun owners after confiscating their guns. I said to him, "Jerry, listen to what you are saying, it is absurd." No one was detained nor were their guns confiscated.

Around the same time, my nephew from Baltimore, in an unregulated state of mind, posted a picture of himself on Facebook cradling an AR15 with the caption, "Obama is not taking my guns!" My nephew's guns were never taken.

And now, nine years after Obama was elected, Russ Matson, in his April 18 Letter to the Editor, seems convinced that if Barack Obama had more time in office, we would have had a Civil War resulting from Obama taking our guns.

The government is going to take our guns. Conspiracy theory is still alive despite all of the evidence to the contrary.

It seems logical that if Barack Obama wanted to take our guns, he would have attempted it during his eight years in office.

What I want to communicate to the audience is that each of us is responsible for gathering information from credible sources, evaluating its validity, and then presenting our written thoughts in a regulated state of mind so as to not perpetuate the dissemination of non-factual information.
