Ladies of the Elks #2781 to disband

April 25, 2018
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

It is with great sadness and regret that the executive board of the Pine Island Ladies of the Elks #2781 has unanimously voted to dissolve and disband our organization, effective April 30, 2018. Unfortunately, for groups our size, this action seems to be a sign of the times.

We have appreciated the support and generosity of the Greater Pine Island community as evidenced by the attendance at our charity events. Over the past 24 years we have been able to contribute many thousands of dollars to groups such as F.I.S.H., The Beacon of HOPE, the Food Pantry, Matlacha Summer Camp, Pine Island Elementary School and our local and state Elks' Children's Therapy Services and Youth Summer Camp.

Our events would not have been possible without the many devoted volunteers who have given their time and efforts to support the goals of our organization. It is our hope that they will continue to utilize their time and talents in service to other charitable groups.

As the editor of The Eagle, we thank you Ed Franks for the invaluable contribution you made to the success of our events. The publicity you provided helped to promote community interest and support, which enabled us to attain our mission.

Finally, our long history of proudly serving those in need on our Island has been rewarded with a deep sense of accomplishment for our efforts.

Marilyn Martin

President, LOTE #2781
