Greater Pine Island Lions' 8th Annual Raffle/Auction a huge success

April 4, 2018
Pine Island Eagle

(At Fishers of Men Lutheran Church in St. James City - Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018)

To the editor:

Thanks to all who sold tickets, bought tickets and attended the event. We had lots of donations from all around us here in Southwest Florida and some of you attending got some really great deals. Hope you are enjoying the things you bought and honor us next year - come back for more!

When Irma came through, Sun Shrimp had lots of damage and we weren't sure we would be getting the usual donation from them but they did provide us with shrimp and even had one of the workers show both Gary and I how to behead and clean them. Lion Kendall Nuggar provided crab cakes (using Capt. Dick May recipe that appeared in a recent copy of the Eagle) and they too were delicious and went fast. Kendall made a trip to her house to bring more. Chicken wings were enjoyed by everyone. Desserts were provided by Lion Mary Jean Schimmel, Lion Mary Von Burg and Winn-Dixie provided 3 pies when we learned that the pie provider was not going to be there. Lion Bonnie Ruling made delicious potato salad. We are glad everyone had a good time and we will know to plan for more food next time.
