Lee County official praised for help with island problem

April 4, 2018
Pine Island Eagle

(Editor's note: The following letter was directed to Randy Cerchie, the director of Lee County Transportation, and presented to The Eagle for publication.)

Dear Mr. Cerchie,

I sent a letter to you 2 years ago about the dangerous safety situation near Pineland Marina. I just wanted to extend my profound thanks. You not only performed all of the work you outlined, pertaining to the terrible street flooding and more, but your brilliant idea to install a "Right Turn Only" sign for boats exiting Pineland Marina was a stroke of genius.

As we discussed earlier, Pineland Road is a wider, more sparsely populated and less used for walking/biking vs. Calusa, Bokeelia and Pomegranate roads. Since installing this sign, the hairy dangerous speedway north has subsided and less mail boxes are knocked down to boot! Boaters have gotten into the habit of using Pineland Road to enter the marina, as a result, also! What a simple solution to such a major safety problem.

Thanks 1,000,000.
