Lilly’s Island Deli celebrates 10th anniversary

Robin Lilly, owner of Little Lilly's Island Deli, will celebrate the 10th anniversary of owning the deli at Island Exchange on Feb. 2.

"I was a long time-customer before buying the deli," Lilly said. "It was Scooter's Island Deli before I bought it and it was half the space. It only had three tables so the business was mostly takeout."

Originally from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania Lilly arrived in Fort Myers Beach, Florida in 2004 and a year later relocated to Pine Island.

"I had been coming to Scooter's Island Deli for a few years when I heard it was for sale," Lilly said. "After years in the restaurant business I decided to buy it. I was in the right place at the right time."

About two years later the office space next door became available and Lilly's expanded. "That worked out as a great expansion and really helped the business," Lilly said.

Robin Lilly's brother, Matt Romejko, stayed behind in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Four years after she opened the deli Romejko decided to leave Pennsylvania for Pine Island.

"Robin had asked me when I was moving down here every year," Romejko said. "Then six years ago some things changed at my job back home and I decided it was time to move."

"My brother Matt has been a great addition to the deli," Lilly said. "The previous owner was known for his soups and Matt took over that job and had some really big shoes to fill. Matt and the rest of the staff have been a big part of the success of Lilly's Island Deli."

The breakfast menu includes everything from bagels & lox, to eggs and egg sandwiches. The lunch menu is an array of sandwiches with a "Soup of the Day" - an island favorite is Crab and Corn Chowder made with Pine Island Crab.

"Something we started this year is what we call the 'Quickie Corner'," Lilly said. "Our lines get so long during the season so we came up with a way to get our locals in and out quickly. They call ahead and we set their food on our pick-up table which allows people to pick up their food without waiting in line."

Little Lilly's also offers catering for your special events from weddings, holiday parties, baby showers, birthdays, business meetings, office parties or just dinner with friends.

"I love everything about Pine Island: the people, the weather, the kayaking, the quiet and my customers," Lilly said. "Our official anniversary date is Feb. 2 - you know that's Groundhog Day. We always laugh about living and working here that it's always the same - just like Groundhog Day. That's what makes it so great!"

Little Lilly's Island Deli is at 10700 Stringfellow Rd., Bokeelia.
