Thanks to all who made library book sale a success

December 13, 2017
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

The Friends of the Pine Island Library would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with the Book Sale. Once again, our book trailer and a special garage in St. James overflowed with books and set up took twice as long as usual. There were a lot of sore backs this past weekend. We want to give a huge thanks to the young PILOT volunteers from the Methodist Church. They helped make the packing and cleaning up a speedy process.

Members of the Friends of Library and the Pine Island business community were very generous with their donations for the gift drawings. Board member Barb Riordan donated a beautiful Christmas cactus which was won by Lynn Sarda. A basket of mango goodies, donated by board member Ellen Ballard and Promised Land Nursery, was won by Peggy Lewzey. Member Louise Ritchey donated her original gyotaku art print and husband Phil partnered it with a basket of fishing supplies. D&D Bait supplemented this haul with a gift certificate for bait shrimp! Tony Scott was the happy winner. Members Karen Hanson and Diane Nivens had a fun basket called Diners, Drive Ins & Dives and this basket was won by Diane Maher. Members Linda Jacobs and Vicki Morrison created a lovely holiday hostess basket which was won by Lei Gittleman. Lots of tickets were submitted for the gift certificate tree because it held $185 worth of local restaurant cards (Waterfront, Saltwater Smoke House, El Pollo Rico, Olive Garden) and shopping (Island Time Fashions, Target, Publix). Perhaps winner Karen Noonan would like to share!

To all of you who came to re-stock your bookshelves, we thank you. Your generous support will help us continue to provide great programming at the Pine Island Library. For those of you who missed it, be sure to visit us at the next book sale held at the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church on Feb. 18, 2018.

Ellen Ballard
