If you're looking to build up your book collection, the Cape Coral Public Library may be the place to go.

The Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library will hold the second of its two book sales Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16 to 18, to raise funds for programs and other services the Lee County Library System does not cover in its budget.

The Friends hold two book sales a year, in the fall and in the early spring, when winter residents are here. Each of the sales raise thousands of dollars, according to Friends member and event organizer Paula Novander.

This helps to enhance the library experience.

"It used to be we would buy new chairs or furniture or audio equipment. Lately, we've been doing more programming, such as the summer reading programs," Novander said. "We do contests where we give away books. We have jugglers and balloon guys. We even have people take care of the butterfly garden."

"We provide things the library system doesn't provide, such as programs, and last year we spent $7,000 on a new seating arrangement with a children's area," said Monica Rahman, president of the group. "We have a big organization. Last year we had 36 people working those three days."

The event begins Thursday with a members-only sale from 2 to 5:30 p.m., where Friends can come and get first dibs on their favorite authors and titles. People can also come and join the group for $15 a year, which includes spouses and children. There are currently more than 100 members of Friends.

The sale for the public on Friday, goes from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Books, audio books, DVDs and compact discs will be on sale. Prices are usually $1 for paperback books, $2 for hardcover, although some specialty books can go from $3 to $5.

Rahman said this coming book sale is expected to be the biggest ever, with more than 10,000 titles available.

"The entire room will be filled with books when we're finished. They are quality used books and are organized by fiction and non-fiction, and categories," Rahman said. "It takes a lot of work, but it's the most fun things they'll ever volunteer for."

The Cape Coral Public Library is at 921 SW 39th Terrace. For more information, call 533-4500.
