State should help cut trees back from power lines

October 4, 2017

To the editor:

I know the words common sense don't mean a lot to most politicians, but in your case, governor, I think you're up on it. Get the Army, Navy and Marines out to clear trees within 100 feet of power lines (overhead lines), of course.

In a hurricane, the two worst hazards are wind and water, but the third worst is trees. We can't control the wind and the water but we can control the trees. Not only do they break the electric lines but they leave a terrible mess afterward. They also block roads, tear up the water lines and foundations. And some give off pollen which is bad for people with breathing problems.

So be a hero and start this little project, will you? Of course, you'll have to make it a law because of the 10 or 20 percent that are in La La Land. You'll make Florida a greater state and make a lot of people happy. I know you can do it governor and God bless you.
