Moose members praised for allowing lodge to be used as a safe house during Hurricane Irma

September 27, 2017
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

I want to thank the Pine Island Moose Lodge for opening its doors so that folks could take cover there during Hurricane Irma. Approximately 35 people, ranging in age from an infant to in their 70s, 10 dogs and a cat weathered the storm at the Moose over almost two days. Despite the stress caused by the storm everyone, even the pets stayed calm, and we even had a few laughs along with food provided by the club.

I want to particularly thank Sherry, who kept the whole operation together, as well as John, Rocky, Nicole, Joe, Steve and many others who I know I'm forgetting here. It is this atmosphere of neighbors helping neighbors which makes Matlacha-Pine Island such a great community. Thanks again!
