Against incorporation

August 16, 2017
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

I am against incorporation of "The Villages of Matlacha and Pine Island" and totally in agreement with Bob Burkett's letter to the editor. Don't get caught up in the emotional aspects of this project. You must think logically.

There is no government that can run with no taxes. If anyone thinks we can run a government and provide all the requirements with no tax increase, let alone have a surplus, they are snowflakes also. Does anyone truly think we can repave streets and potholes without money? And the other services currently provided by Lee County using our tax dollars?

If Cape Coral wants to try to incorporate "The Villages of Matlacha and Pine Island," the majority of property owners must vote to approve it. I'm not sure of exactly how many property owners there are in "The Villages of Matlacha and Pine Island," probably around 3,000-4,000, but I doubt the majority want to have their taxes substantially raised like Cape Coral has done in their city.
