This Saturday, June 17, from 3- 9 p.m., a grand opening will be held for the Mangrove Paddling Company, a kayak rental business at Olde Fish House Marina.

Mangrove Paddling Company is the creation of Mangrove Jimmy Sigler and Molly Brown.

"Mangrove Jimmy is just the person a kayaker is looking for when headed out into new waters," Brown said. "Jimmy has many years and extensive knowledge of the local waters surrounding Pine island."

Mangrove Jimmy is an experienced sailor who can teach a basic bowline knot or talk half a day on the phases of the moon and how it affects the ocean tides. He's also a nature lover who carries the knowledge of all the local flora and fauna. As an experienced commercial fisherman Jimmy can assist with finding and catching the best seafood in the area. He's owned his own business in the Matlacha area for many years.

Brown, Sigler' business partner, has been a local Pine Island/Matlacha figure for many years. She has partnered with several local bands and is well known for her talent with both the bass guitar and her voice. Brown lends her talents to many local events and fundraisers, including the annual Mullet Toss and the Pine Island Elementary Fishing Derby.

Saturday's grand opening will be at the kayak launch behind Olde Fish House Marina.

"This is a perfect location for this business," Brown said. "It is conveniently located just over the bridge, has lots of great parking and Olde Fish House can also provide a great take out lunch for our kayakers."

There are few places in Florida that offer this kind of kayaking experience, she added, where the kayaker can experience historic Matlacha, the Great Calusa Blue Way and Matlacha's Aquatic Preserve, plus fantastic sunrises and sunsets.

"In appreciation of our service members and veterans, Mangrove Paddling Company would like to show our appreciation with a discount on all rentals," Brown said.

Entertainment for the grand opening, Saturday, June 17, includes the reunion band "SoapBox," which features drummer Stix, bass guitarist Molly Brown and lead guitarist and vocalist Dawn Metzner. Opening for SoapBox is Brother Love and other local favorites.

There will be local jewelry sales and limited edition T-shirts designed by Tiger Sky giving attendees a piece of creative apparel to cherish as this event will be talked about years to come.
