Bette Grace Lyons

Bette Grace Lyons of St. James City, Florida died May 18, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Bette was born July 19, 1928 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Earl Lyons and is survived by her daughter Jana Nemenoff, son-in-law Howard Nemenoff and granddaughter Erica Schulz and husband Lukas.

Bette was a volunteer for many years at the Pine Island Public Library. Her interests included reading, knitting, cross stitch and playing cards with the Cherimoya Street Girls. Daily, she completed two crosswords, a Sudoku, a Cryptoquip and a Jumble. She was an avid lover of Opera and kept her iPhone close for a quick game of Hand and Foot whenever possible.

After 40 years of service, Bette retired as Chief of the Adjudications Division for the Department of the Army Personnel that provided determinations for clearances, including access to the most sensitive categories of intelligence.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Sunday, June 4th at 2372 Cherimoya Lane, St. James City, FL 33956, between the hours of 1pm to 5pm.

Memorial: Grace Webb School Library Fund, Black River Falls Area Foundation, PO Box 99, Black River Falls, WI 54615. Grace was Bette's favorite aunt and in 1986 this fund was established in her memory. Bette always appreciated reading and felt it essential for a child's success.
