Osprey rehabbed at CROW released

May 10, 2017
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

I rescued an osprey on April 19 at the Bocilla Club. He was very stunned and unable to move. He was taken to CROW where he received treatment. He was considered a juvenile who had left the nest too early and was unable to provide for himself. At CROW he was hand fed until he gained enough strength to be placed outside in the flight area with three other osprey. There he learned to fly and to feed himself.

I released him on May 3 right where he had been rescued. When the transport box was opened, he took one look at me and took off in flight. His wings were strong and he simply soared out over Charlotte Harbor in what appeared to be total delight.

Hats off to the caring people at CROW.
