Not all islanders want incorporation

May 10, 2017
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

I read the article on the incorporation report in last week's Eagle. It says our taxes would not be raised. That's good. But are the representatives, community manager and support staff all volunteers? I hope so because I and a lot of people I know would definitely not want to put any money towards that idea or toward office space. Once again, people want more government. Why not a non-paid watchdog group?

Also, I saw a man on the news talking about Immokalee incorporating. He said it was going to cost them $1,000 each. I don't know if that was per family or individual.

Once again, I hope the people attending the meeting of the GPICA do not think the opinions of that organization are anywhere near the opinions of all islanders. And I sure hope this whole island will have a vote on this. I also hope the vote will be in the summer so it will be a vote of permanent residents.
