Today, May 10, at 7:30 p.m., JPs Duo will appear at Bert's Bar and Grill to perform a number of songs from the pair's former bandmate Jim Morris.

The duo, John Patti and Jimi Pap-pas, were mem-bers of Jim Morris' "Big Bamboo Band."

Morris died of a brain aneurysm last July while in Washington state. He was scheduled to perform at "Laid Back Attack XIV" in Olympia, Washington. Morris had performed a number of times at the festival and performed at Bert's for 16 or 17 years.

"JPs Duo will be performing a number of Jim's songs in a tribute to Jim and his music," Bert's owner Bernard Johnson said. "Jim's songs often contained a great story about doomed love or drunken revelry and sometimes both.

"Jim's unique musical style was sort of a tropical-country/jazz-folk, with lots of humor," Johnson said. "He started playing at Bert's shortly after I bought the place. Among his many popular tunes, especially here, was 'The Backroom at Bert's,' a song that includes several Matlacha/Pine Island characters and some clever lyrics."

According to the duo's website, "The JPs put a jazz infused island twist on acoustic music! The duo is made up of John Patti on steel drums and Jimi Pappas on guitar. The Florida based duo bring a smooth, exciting and captivating sound that is anything but typical! JPs Duo music incorporates Jazz, R&B, classic rock, folk and island music."

Both Patti and Pappas have played with many of the members of Jimmy Buffett?s Coral Reefer Band plus Jerry Jeff Walker, Chubby Checker and Les Paul.

"For over 16/17 years, Jim packed the backroom at Bert's whenever he played there," Johnson said. "Jim touched all of our lives in many ways and we will all still miss him immensely. His songwriting always left you with a smile on your face, a laugh or two and an appreciation of life. I'm really looking forward to John and Jimi playing here next Wednesday."

Bert's Bar and Grill is at 4271 Pine Island Road in Matlacha. Fore additional information about he show or Bert's, call 239-282-3232 or visit www.BertsBar.com
