Mildred (Johnson) Dobbins of St. James City, Florida passed away at Angel Works Assisted Living Facility, Cape Coral, Florida on April 1, 2017.
She was born on August 14, 1929 to Bessie and Homer Johnson in Camden, New Jersey. She graduated from Lower Camden County High School in 1947. In support of our troops at the end of World War II, Mildred volunteered at the U.S.O. It was at the U.S.O. that she met George Thomas. When his tour of duty with the Navy ended, George and Mildred were married and moved to Cleveland, Ohio.
She is survived by a daughter, Kim (Bruce) Kutnak, grandchildren Sandra, Joe Kutnak and great grandchild Liam Holley.
After she was divorced from George Thomas, she married Parnell Dobbins of Cleveland, Ohio. In 1988 they moved to Pine Island (St. James City) Florida. Parnell died in 1994. After his death, a special friend Elmer Fowler came into her life bringing smiles and laughter until his death in 2000. Mildred resided on Pine Island until 2014 when she went into assisted living.
In Cleveland, she was a member of the Evangelical Reform Church, Bethelite Group (a former youth fellowship that continued to hold annual reunions until recent years.) In Florida she was a former member of St. James Hobby Club, current member of Pine Island United Methodist Church, St. James Women's Circle, church library assistant and The Walk to Emmaus.
She went to be with The Lord with her good friends Mary Grover and Muriel Pletcher at her side. Her remains will be placed in the cemetery in Rockwood, MI. A memorial service was held on April 19th at The Pine Island United Methodist Church.
