To create a statewide - and nationwide - show of patriotism and support for the 45th president of the United States, the Lee County 4 Trump and Lee County Republican Executive Committee groups plan a "March for Trump" rally in Cape Coral.
The event will coincide with the weekly Farmer's Market in Club Square and is tentatively set in the Big John's Plaza on Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The public is invited to attend and participate.
"My counterpart in St. John's County told me about the Main Street Patriot Program, trying to make this a nationwide event," said Roz Lesser, chairman of Lee County 4 Trump and treasurer (and longest continuous member) of the Republican Executive Committee. "I'd love to see people come out and support Mr. Trump, waving at cars as they go by."
Chairman of the REC in Lee County, Jonathon Martin, will make the opening and closing remarks that day, with guest speakers State Rep. Dane Eagle and Congressman Francis Rooney.
Pending a permit from Cape Coral, the two-hour gathering will commence entirely within the Big John's Plaza. Otherwise, the celebration will march down to Cape Coral Parkway, with those attending donning their red, white and blue.
"My vision is someone comes over the bridge on Cape Coral Parkway, seeing Trump signs from Del Prado down to Coronado - honking and waving -just a peaceful demonstration waving at the cars," Lesser said. "This is all about showing your support of President Tump. Period. Get out. Meet new people. It will be lots of fun, and after, many of us will be going out for lunch somewhere."
Lesser said many signs to boast are available, but feel free to bring your own.
Carpooling is suggested, although the organizer encourages that ample parking is available near the gathering site.
