New veterinarian continues journey at Pine Island Animal Clinic

January 18, 2017
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Last month the Pine Island Animal Clinic added a new full-time associate veterinarian, Jackie Connolly, DVM.

"We were getting to the point where we were too busy for part-time veterinarians and decided to look for someone full time," co-owner Kendra Techeira, DVM, said. "We had a number of inquiries and my husband Trevor and I settled with Dr. Connolly."

After completing 4 years of undergraduate studies, Connolly went to veterinary school at the University of Florida in Gainesville from 2012-2016.

"I'm originally from Long Island," Connolly said. "But now I live in Cape Coral."

Connolly has always been an animal lover.

"I believe from the time I was a little kid I was on the path to become a veterinarian," Connolly said. "I was the kid in the neighborhood bringing home the stray cats. I think I was in middle school when I started volunteering at shelters and local clinics. From there I became a technician during the time I was an undergraduate. Once I moved to Cape Coral, I started looking for a position with a veterinary clinic."

"We had been interviewing for a while and interviewed a number of candidates," Techeira said. "Dr. Connolly has a great resume and her medicine and surgical skills are excellent. I am happy to announce we hired Dr. Connolly about 5 or 6 weeks ago."

"I like that this clinic is such a part of the community," Connolly said. "One of the first things we did was with the Pine Island Fire Department. They were doing their CERT training and invited us over to show the trainees how to perform CPR on a dog or cat - things that can be done in the field to save an animal.

"I'm excited about working here because they have a great team," Connolly said. "I am really into the bond people have with their animals and I think what motivates me is the compassion for the animals and the compassion for that special bond people have with their animals. I believe compassionate medicine is good medicine."

"Dr. Connolly has a wonderful 'paw-side' manner," Techeira said. "She's very good with animals and people. That's a gift you either have or you don't. Pine Island has a very diverse population and the clinic also has a diverse clientele. Our vets need to take time with our clientele and Dr. Connolly is a great asset to our Pine Island Animal Clinic team."

The Pine Island Animal Clinic is 10290 Stringfellow Rd, St. James City, FL 33956. For more information or to make an appointment, call 239-283-1244.
