CW Fudge makes donation to island’s From Our Hearts

Tuesday night, at the monthly From Our Hearts meeting, William Tidball and Carlos Gomez, owners of CW Fudge Factory, made a donation to the Pine Island From Our Hearts organization.

"We were blessed through the season this year to have some free publicity," Tidball said. "We were approached by WINK News before Valentine's Day about doing a story on Valentine's Day about chocolate covered pretzels and Oreos. Part of the story was to be about us giving a part of the proceeds back to the community. But the newscaster got tied up in making fudge and forgot to mention that.

"The segment was featured on the WINK News 'Community Spotlight' and the spots were shown on two channels," Tidball said. "They brought in quite a lot of business and we decided to give $2 from every customer that saw the segment on TV. During February and March we had 75 people come in that saw the TV segment."

Tidball noted his appreciation for the community support the business has received.

"This community has been so supportive of CW Fudge and Carlos and I and we would like to donate $150 to the From Our Hearts organization. From Our Hearts is a great organization and the money stays on the island."

The Matlacha From Our Hearts organization was formed in 2001 when a handful of Pine Island residents raised funds to send a local resident to a 3-day, 60-mile Breast Cancer Walk. That initial effort started with a few local musicians playing music at the Island Hardware store in St. James City and passing the hat. Their efforts to raise more funds continued and progressed into the First Annual Pine Island Breast Fest. In order to become more effective in their fund raising efforts, the not for profit organization called From Our Hearts Inc. was formed.

The From Our Hearts mission statement reads: "To help in the fight to find a cure for the debilitating disease of Breast Cancer and help those that for one reason or another need a helping hand."

"I would like to thank William and Carlos for their donation and the tray of chocolates," president Mary Scott said. "William and Carlos have been very supportive of From Our Hearts and we deeply appreciate it."
