"I'm tatting for tatas," said fiber artist Rebecca Murray, one of the vendors at Saturday's Fourteenth Annual Breast Fest.

Under summer-like skies, this year's major fund-raiser for From Our Hearts kicked off with a walk which included 386 participants and raised $23,370.

"That's just from the walk and doesn't include our raffles and contributions from vendors," said Mary Scott, From Our Hearts president. "We partner with Partners for Breast Cancer Care (PBCC) and Lee Memorial Cancer Care Center and, since our initial grant, have granted PBCC alone $315,000. We have serviced 1,516 people for 2,269 procedures from mammograms to treatments.

"It's all about the island. Without those terrific folks, we could not have done it. Our theme is 'it takes an island' and Pine Island covers it, over and above."

Throughout the day, attendees were entertained by four bands, Pain in the Grass, Last Resort, Strange Arrangement and Swamp, all of whom donated their performances.

Food was offered by Low Key Tiki and Jackie's Seafood. Vendors included The Dip Chick, Vickie Miller Jewelry and Tiles, Cosas FMB Ecuador-ian Handicrafts, Tom Hig-gins Clocks and Textured Paintings Bracelets by Suzanne and Glass Jewelry artist Cynthia Rayl.

"I've had a tremendous day," said Rayl. "It it's a good day for me, it's a good day for From Our Hearts."

From Our Hearts' other major fund-raiser is October Breast which will be held Oct. 25 at Miceli's Restau-rant, at 3930 Pine Island Road, Matlacha.
